Mastering Early Stage Investments

Together We RISE: Rewarding Investments through Smart Education

Hello RISE Impact Enthusiasts,

What I’m Listening to This Week:
I’ve been tuning into the Invested in Climate podcast. This episode with ScopeFour Capital was particularly eye-opening, focusing on how public climate companies can drive both profit and impact. Definitely worth a listen if you’re passionate about climate investing!

One key takeaway: Did you know that 140 countries and 4,700 companies have committed to reaching net-zero emissions? But what exactly is Net Zero? It refers to balancing the amount of greenhouse gases emitted with an equivalent amount removed from the atmosphere, ultimately reducing the overall carbon footprint to zero.

If you find this helpful, feel free to share the link with others who are interested in climate-focused investments or want to support innovative companies like ScopeFour.

On a Personal Note…

Next week, my older teens and I are heading to Montana for my birthday and their fall break. We’re gearing up for a week of fresh air, lakes, horses, and—hopefully—a lot less screen time! My hope (emphasis on hope) is that they’ll unplug and really soak in the beauty around them. I’m always challenging them (as I am genuinely perplexed) with the question: “Is spending so much time on social media really a good investment of your personal time if it’s not making the world better or growing your own capital?”

Fingers crossed that it clicks, and they’ll realize there’s peace in being fully present in nature and connection.

Looking Ahead: Impact Circle this Tuesday

We have two exciting companies lined up for this Tuesday’s Impact Circle! First, we’ll hear from a venture capital fund launched by women, investing in women-owned businesses and building a strong community around them. They have an impressive track record. Second, a woman-owned ETF with low minimum investments that focuses on women-led companies.

As always, let's share this valuable knowledge of values aligned investing with our loved ones, including our children (it's never too early to start!), friends, and broader community. With that said, let's explore this week’s impactful opportunity.

TEACHING IMPACT INVESTING

Family Impact Investment Discussions

Key Takeaways from Preqin Event: ‘Service Providers Leading the Way’ - these are my notes

1. Technology & Impact Measurement:
One of the standout moments was learning how service providers are taking advantage of AI and data analytics to track the real-time performance of impact investments. From monitoring environmental outcomes to measuring social impact as it happens, these tools are game-changers. For our community, this means greater transparency and accountability, so we can invest confidently, knowing that every dollar is working hard to make a difference.

2. ESG Compliance as a Growth Driver:
ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) compliance is no longer optional—it’s quickly becoming mandatory. Service providers are stepping in to help impact funds meet these standards by integrating powerful ESG tracking systems and compliance frameworks. For us, this is huge! It ensures that our capital isn’t just profitable, but it’s also being invested ethically and sustainably, aligning with our core mission of impact.

3. Outsourcing for Efficiency:
More and more impact funds are outsourcing the technical heavy lifting, such as risk management, compliance, and back-office operations, to service providers. This frees up fund managers to focus on what they do best—sourcing deals and scaling impact. Ultimately, this streamlined approach benefits us as investors because it increases efficiency and helps funds grow faster.

4. Scaling Climate Finance:
There was also a lot of buzz about climate finance. Service providers are now playing a critical role in helping funds mobilize capital for large-scale climate projects, like renewable energy, carbon reduction, and sustainable infrastructure. These partnerships are making it easier than ever for investors to participate in and track the success of these crucial climate projects.

🌟 To Make Airport Travel More Accessible To Everyone 🌟

💬 Why I'm Sharing This: As an impact-driven founder, I’m inspired by how this company combines innovation with social responsibility to make travel more inclusive and accessible. Their mission to serve vulnerable travelers aligns with the values of creating scalable, sustainable solutions that benefit both people and the broader community.

📍 Why This Company? The travel industry is experiencing a resurgence post-pandemic, with increasing demand for personalized and convenient travel services. This company offers a range of services designed to simplify travel, such as personalized itineraries, airport assistance, and family travel support. This unique value proposition appeals to a wide audience, including busy professionals, families, and elderly travelers.

🚀 Mission: The company is on a mission to provide accessible and safe passage through the airport for‍ all passengers—especially travelers in need. Its service combines high-tech with human empathy to drive innovation inside the airport.

♻️ Impact Goals: After a couple of years operating exclusively as a service tailored to helping parents, the company broadened its offerings to cater to more passengers, including seniors, passengers with disabilities and mobility challenges, and VIPs to help them get through the airport.

💰 Funding: In 2022, Huue, a pioneer of sustainable bio-based dyes, announced a $14.6M Series A led by Material Impact, with participation from HSBC Asset Management's Climate Tech VC and all existing investors—SOSV's IndieBio, iGlobe, and Nobel prize winner and CRISPR Technology inventor Jennifer Doudna and Professor Jamie Cate.

🏆 Awards and Achievements:

  • Selected as an ATDC portfolio company in 2022 (Georgia Tech’s Advanced Technology Development Center)

  • Finalist for Best 2022 B2B Startup by Startup Atlanta

  • Showcase company at 2022 Venture Atlanta

  • Featured startup at 2023 TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco

👩‍💼 Women Leadership: The company’s Founder & CEO, has exceptional leadership and entrepreneurial skills that have been acknowledged by many esteemed organizations. She was recognized as one of INC Atlanta's 30 under 30ish in 2023, leading the company to become a finalist for Startup Atlanta's Best Female-led 2023 startup. She was also invited to Techstars & JP Morgan's Female Founder Catalyst program and has been acknowledged as a Forbes Next 1000 Innovator and Speaker.

💡 My Thoughts: The business model is highly scalable. As demand for travel services grows, the company can expand its offerings to new locations and introduce additional services, capturing a larger market share. Collaborations with airlines, hotels, and travel agencies can enhance the company’s service offerings and expand its customer base. Strategic partnerships can also provide additional revenue streams and strengthen market positioning. Success for this company looks like operating out of the 41,000-plus airports around the world.
