Mastering Early Stage Investments

Together We RISE: Rewarding Investments through Smart Education

Hello RISE Impact Enthusiasts,

What I’m Listening to This Week:
I’ve been tuning into the Invested in Climate podcast. This episode with ScopeFour Capital was particularly eye-opening, focusing on how public climate companies can drive both profit and impact. Definitely worth a listen if you’re passionate about climate investing!

One key takeaway: Did you know that 140 countries and 4,700 companies have committed to reaching net-zero emissions? But what exactly is Net Zero? It refers to balancing the amount of greenhouse gases emitted with an equivalent amount removed from the atmosphere, ultimately reducing the overall carbon footprint to zero.

If you find this helpful, feel free to share the link with others who are interested in climate-focused investments or want to support innovative companies like ScopeFour.

On a Personal Note

Next week, my older teens and I are heading to Montana for my birthday and their fall break. We’re gearing up for a week of fresh air, lakes, horses, and—hopefully—a lot less screen time! My hope (emphasis on hope) is that they’ll unplug and really soak in the beauty around them. I’m always challenging them with the question: “Is spending so much time on social media really a good investment of your personal time if it’s not making the world better or growing your own capital?”

Fingers crossed that it clicks, and they’ll realize there’s peace in being fully present in nature and connection.

Looking Ahead: Impact Circle this Tuesday

We have two exciting companies lined up for this Tuesday’s Impact Circle! First, we’ll hear from a venture capital fund launched by women, investing in women-owned businesses and building a strong community around them. They have an impressive track record. Second, a woman-owned ETF with low minimum investments that focuses on women-led companies.

As always, let's share this valuable knowledge of values aligned investing with our loved ones, including our children (it's never too early to start!), friends, and broader community. With that said, let's explore this week’s impactful opportunity.

My Notes from Climate Week NYC: ‘Accelerating Climate Action: Partnerships and Innovation for a Sustainable Future’

First, I’ll speak Finance. Second, I’ll summarize like I’m explaining to my older teens.

Recent Developments in Climate Finance:

Larger Funds Mobilizing:

  • Big news! New climate finance initiatives are scaling up, with several billion-dollar funds announced. These aren’t just promises; it’s real money from private investors, governments, and philanthropic organizations.

Innovative Financial Structures:

  • Green Bonds and Climate Loans: These are hot right now! More projects are being funded through green bonds and specialized loans for renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure.

  • Carbon Credits: Remember the old cap-and-trade system? Think of this as the upgraded version, used to fund climate projects while keeping big polluters in check.

Focus on Equity and Inclusion:

  • It’s not just about going green; it’s also about being fair. There’s a push to ensure these investments help marginalized communities who are hit hardest by climate change.

Technology and Data:

  • Tech is taking over! AI and big data are critical for tracking the impact of these investments. Imagine measuring real-time progress and making tweaks along the way. Game-changing!

Private Sector Leadership:

  • Guess what? Big corporations are stepping up. They’re not just setting net-zero targets; they’re creating and investing in their own climate funds. Talk about leading by example!

Now, Let’s Explain it Super Simply:

Big money is starting to flow into fighting climate change in smarter ways. Huge funds, with billions of dollars, are being created by a mix of governments, big businesses, and charities. They’re using tools like “green bonds” and “carbon credits” to raise money for projects that help the environment. Green bonds are like regular bonds, but the money raised supports positive environment projects. Carbon credits - basically permits to corporate to emit a certain amount of carbon dioxide; if they are below they can sell their remaining credits.

The cool part? They’re making sure these projects don’t just help the planet but also the people who need it the most. Poor communities and those hit hardest by climate change are finally getting more support.

Plus, they’re using tech to track how well these projects are doing. So, if something isn’t working, they can pivot fast. This is a big deal because it shows we can use money and tech together to solve climate problems.
